29th Annual Summer Institute on College Admissions and School Relations

July 26–30, 2009
The University of San Diego

Join us at the five-day Institute on College Admissions and School Relations, and begin setting the foundation for a rewarding and lasting career in college admissions.

This annual event was designed to help newly hired admissions and outreach staff develop the skills necessary to build strong institutional partnerships and assist students in the coming years. Faculty from a variety of institutions will provide personalized instruction, while discussion-based workshops will give you an opportunity to make connections and network among peers.

The SACAC “Sweet Tea” Tour (June 7 – 12)

Join us for some southern hospitality as we explore a wide variety of college options in the South.  Our tour begins in Atlanta and takes us to Athens, GA, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, AL.  Each day we will visit at least two schools in our host cities where we will enjoy a tour and information session.  Three evening workshops will be held during the week allowing participants a chance to discuss hot topics in college admissions and share ideas for best practices. 

Cost:  $425 for SACAC members, $475 for non-members.

SACAC Summer Seminar, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA (June 17 – 20)

Summer Seminar is a workshop designed for high school counselors who are new to the field of college counseling or have less than 3-5 years of experience.  Join us in New Orleans at our host site, Tulane University, and tour area colleges while you learn about each aspect of a college counselor’s responsibilities.  Topics of interest include Counseling Models and Calendar, The Recommendation and Profile, The Admission Process, Special Talents and Athletics in Admission, Ethics in College Counseling, etc. 

Cost:  $425 for SACAC members, $475 for non-members ($325 commuter cost for members, $375 commuter cost for non-members).

SACAC Dry Run, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL (July 31 – August 3)

Dry Run is an annual workshop designed to provide practical experience for new admission professionals.  The program provides training in relevant basic skills and discussion of pertinent issues and situations encountered in the admission profession.  Participants will attend presentations, engage in case studies, work within small groups with an experienced mentor, and participate in mock situation settings. 

Cost:  $400 for SACAC members, $450 for non-members.

The Pacific Northwest ACAC Professional Development Committee is pleased to announce two opportunities for summer 2009.

Eastern WA / Western ID College Tour

We invite college counselors to blaze the trails with us in Eastern Washington and Western Idaho for a tour of colleges and universities.  Our adventures will begin Sunday, July 12 and last through the week, ending July 17.  Participating colleges include: Whitworth University, Whitman College, College of Idaho, Boise State University, Lewis-Clark State College, University of Idaho, Washington State University, and Gonzaga University.

Summer Institute

We’re bringing back the Summer Institute which is scheduled for August 3 – 6 at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.  Join a team of outstanding faculty to learn new tips for success in working with your students. Network with college counselors and admission professionals and enjoy a bit of the Pacific Northwest.  The tentative agenda is available on the PNACAC website.
