To arrange a speaker through the WACAC Speakers Bureau, please review the list of speakers to identify someone whose expertise matches your needs, and contact him/her as far in advance as possible. In keeping with WACAC’S primary mission to support the efforts of high school and college admission counselors in their work with students, we provide scholarship and grant money to ensure all professionals can participate in professional development opportunities. Particular emphasis is placed on assistance that reaches across ethnic, economic and regionally unsupported areas.
Scholarships for Public High School Counselors, Avid Teachers and Community College Transfer Advisers to attend Bay Area and Sacramento, Share, Learn, and Connects 2010
If you are interested in attending either the Bay Area Share Learn and Connect conference on Thursday, March 11, 2010, or the Sacramento Share Learn and Connect conference on Thursday, March 18, 2010 and would like a scholarship to reduce the registration fee, please download the application form, complete, scan and email to by February 20, 2010. You will be notified by email of your scholarship award and given a special code to use for registering on this website.
Northern California SLC Counselor Scholarship Application
Annual Spring Conference Scholarships
Each year, the WACAC Executive Board offers a limited number of scholarships to encourage new membership and to invite young professionals from secondary and postsecondary counseling/recruitment fields to preview our profession. Each scholarship will include conference fees and on-campus housing (double occupancy) to graduating college seniors, graduate students, high school counselors, and two year and four year counselors/recruiters.
In addition to the new professional scholarships, there are a limited number of matching grants (that’s called “tuition reduction” in college lingo!) for first-time secondary and postsecondary counselors/recruiters. The matching grant will only cover the conference registration fee but can help defray some of the costs associated with attending the conference. If you would like to nominate someone for a scholarship or if your institution is interested in sponsoring a counselor, please contact Joan Jaffe at .

In conjunction with the WACAC Annual Conference, one high school counselor and one transfer counselor or transfer center director will be honored for their contributions to student success. Honorees will be nominated by students and the students who write the winning recommendations will each receive a $500. scholarship. The Diversity, Equity and Access Committee Will Award Three $1,500 Grants and One $2,000 Grant to WACAC Members. YOU Should Apply!
The Diversity, Equity and Access (DEA) Committee values your dedication to promoting equality and access among students in our region. Last year, the DEA Committee awarded four grants to programs that supported the principles of our organization and prepared students for a bright future! Edgar Montes and Keion Morgan, Co-Chairpersons for Diversity, Equity and Access (DEA) and the DEA Grant Review Committee are excited to have this funding opportunity available to Western members.
The 2010 DEA grants will be awarded to members who are working with and serving diverse populations. To be considered, members must submit a detailed grant proposal with information about their program and the student community it will be serving. After a thorough review of each grant proposal, the DEA Grant Review Committee will select the 2010 grant recipients. If selected, award recipients will receive funding to support their program needs. In addition, they will be required to present their program while serving as faculty at the 2010 Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Pre-Conference Workshop.
Award Requirements
• The author of the grant proposal MUST be a current WACAC member working with and/or serving diverse student populations
• The population served must be diverse, including, but not limited to socio-economic, religious, lifestyle choice, cultural and ethnic diversity
• A clear and well written DEA GRANT PROPOSAL must be completed and submitted online
• Members serving on the DEA Grant Review Committee and the 2009 Grant recipients are not eligible to apply for the 2010 DEA Grant

Government Relations Conference Scholarships
Several scholarships are available for WACAC members to the 2008 NACAC Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., during which members will lobby our state elected officials for educational concerns. More information about the conference and scholarships can be found here.
DEA Offers Scholarships for the 2009 NACAC
Guiding the Way to Inclusion (GWI) Workshop
The Diversity, Equity and Access (DEA) committee is excited to offer three (3) scholarships for Western members to attend the 2009 NACAC GWI Workshop to be held July 28-30, 2009 in San Francisco, CA. GWI is a workshop geared towards college admission professionals with 2-6 years of experience and who assist students from diverse ethnic and social economic backgrounds. The scholarship will cover registration, travel expenses and lodging only (double occupancy). If you wish to be considered for the scholarship please complete the Nomination Form and Supervisor Letter of Support no later than March 27, 2009 (EXTENDED).
